December 2010

The coldest December on record . . .
December Snow

Pretty as the snow was, it made for very difficult business conditions. We couldn’t reach our honey barn due to deep snow until 23rd December thus knocking out any pre-Christmas deliveries. On the plus side, great fun was had sledging with the children!
Janette (Fosse Way Honey)

All our water pipes were frozen – we had to hand water all the turkeys for weeks. Not easy but we are made of strong stuff!
(Tomlinsons Poultry)

We could not harvest any vegetables throughout most of December and people couldn’t travel to us to pick up orders.
Peter (D.E. & D.M. Drinkwater and sons)

We were delighted to see our supportive regular customers. Patricia and Eugenie (Boulangerie Valentin)

Snow prevented customers coming; gas cylinder used for cooking samosas and pakoras froze; clients bought uncooked samosas to cook at home; rescued two ladies stranded at Stratford Market by taking them home to Bidford and Evesham. In return, I was hit by the snow and took 8-9 hours to drive to Birmingham! (AFIA’S)

Mince pies looked very festive covered in snow – until you couldn’t see them at all for the stuff! Barbs (The Veggie Option)

We struggled through the ice and snow generally well. We didn’t let it beat us. Only wrote one of our vans off!! A big thank you to all of our customers who also braved the cold weather. (Adlington)

We struggled to get to the market and struggled even more to get home but were pleased to find that lots of our loyal customers also made great efforts to get to the market! Gordon Bull (Donnington Trout)

Worst Christmas trading we have had in 7 years but it proved that regular farmers’ market customers still came out!! Paul Whitehead (Holly and the Ivy)

Thanks to sourcing local winter vegetables we coped pretty well and provided our customers with a great selection of mezes. Moe (Kuskus Foods)
